Tips for Pines of Florence

Bad service but tasty food.
The boyfriend and I were hosting his family this past weekend. His dad's birthday was Thursday night and since we live in Ballston and they had been driving for 7 hours, we decided on a restaurant close by. Pines of Florence was within walking distance and I had never been so it was worth a shot. Once we arrived, we were seated immediately as they were not busy at all. Granted we came in with a group of 8 so I expected service to take a little while.
Our drink orders were taken as soon as we took a look at the menu. We ordered a few bottles of red wine to start. We also placed an order for a few appetizers; small Margarita pizza, fried calamari and a caprese salad. He came back to tell us they were out of basil. hmm an italian restaurant out of basil. Found that kinda weird. So our margarita pizza had to be just plain cheese. Ok, fine that'll do. Once we finally got the pizza, we asked where the other apps were. No recollection of our other orders. Somehow the only appetizer the waiter heard was the pizza. Of course we didn't want to wait another 30 min for appetizers so we canceled those and finally placed our dinner orders.
We finally received our entrees and the food was great! I got the tortellini dish and the alfredo sauce was delish. Everyone was very pleased with the food, not so much the service. My only concern was, they weren't busy at all. We caught our server in the hallway checking out his hair and talking to other servers. I would be a little more lenient if the place was packed but we were 1 of 4 tables in the entire place.
I would def give it another shot. Maybe the bad service was due to the size of our party. Whatever the reason, I'll def go back. Maybe order out next time.
