Neighborhoods: Old Town
Hotel Monaco in Old Town Alexandria gets 5 stars from me I've actually stayed there two or three times now. Each time, they've been extremely hospitable - especially staff member B.K.! He's amazing!
The Hotel doesn't just "allow", but caters to your pets, which meant I got to bring my Shih-tzu with me. They also offer dog-sitters for a fee (although I didn't end up needing one) and give your pet a complimentary "welcome" package upon arrival - complete with a few milkbones my pup enjoyed immensely. They also will store your dog's crate for your next visit as you leave, if you request it. Additionally, on certain days, they do "Yappy Hour", which is essentially a mutt - mixer in the courtyard: You sip rum while they sniff bums :)
ARRAY OF AMENITIES
I haven't had a chance to use their gym or pool yet, but there is a 24 hour fitness facility, an indoor pool, a restaurant/bar, and lovely courtyard with both tables and sofas. If you want a terrace, you'll get to overlook the courtyard. If not, you'll overlook King Street. Having tried both, I think each offers its own great view. Also, the location puts Monaco right in the hub of all the fun shops, pubs, and spas of the quaint and bustling town.
STELLAR STAFF/ INCIDENTALS
The staff are extremely accommodating! When I was there several years ago, I went out without realizing it had begun to rain, and they quickly had an umbrella ready for me to take before I could even turn and ask. On my more recent trip (when I realized at 3 AM that I had forgotten contact solution), I only needed a quick call to guest services, and it was brought promptly to me. They actually have a plethora of commonly forgotten items readily available for you (check the list in the loo).
Given the location, fantastic interior, wonderful staff, and pet-friendly community, the prices are extremely reasonable! Parking is about $20 per day, if I'm not mistaken, and the rooms vary depending on what you request. Next time, I might have to upgrade and try the loft style suite. It looks like too much fun to pass up.
- Ask about discounts. If you're a USAA member, let them know! You'll get a great discount. They may have others, as well, for all I know.
-If you're bringing a dog, don't forget *their* vacay items: a leash, plastic bags for waste, crate, food, food bowl, perhaps some puppy pads, etc.
-If you forget anything personal, don't freak; there is a CVS right across the street!
-And last but not least, don't forget to hit the ATM first; although I always tip any staff, I've yet to meet one staff member at Hotel Monaco of Alexandria who doesn't deserve a very good tip!
Happy travels to you and Fido :)
