I went to Bilbo Baggins at the reccomendation of a friend, to try some good Belgian beers. I sat in the downstairs dining room at a table FAR too small and crowded for my liking. I understand that more seats = more money, but the configuration and size of these tables was really pushing it for me. The dining room and tables had a somewhat charming antiquated look about them, but on further inspection of the tables, I noticed a lot of old food debris caked in between the planks making up the table, which led me to believe the Old Town Alexandria building must be absolutely INFESTED with cockroaches. Not a pleasant mental image when starting a meal, but I stayed nonetheless. The service was friendly, but the food overpriced and somewhat lackluster. On the window the restaurant bragged of featuring innovative, global cuisine, but I found many of the dishes to be dated and some of the flavor combinations things one might find nowadays at a local Ruby Tuesday. I'm sure this was a great spot to dine in the 80's, but would choose to spend my time and money somewhere else today.

If you want to sit in an interesting bar and have a large selection of different beers to try, definitely go. But eat dinner somewhere else. For the price of the food, it should have been a lot better. The decor is quirky (a la the name of the place) but otherwise the place is uninteresting. Service was good and it is intimate and in a good location. But better for drinks than dinner. If you go, check the entertainment book for coupons
