A five-star residence with a spectacular restaurant.. The Scene
This country classic is located at the base of Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountains, about an hour west of Washington, DC. It delights visitors with elegant furnishings and exquisite food. The lovely ceiling in the entry to the lobby is made of stained glass, and the common room features a marble fireplace where complimentary tea and treats are served each afternoon. An outdoor courtyard and garden has trellises teeming with flowers, white wrought-iron furniture and French doors opening into the building.

The Details
Rooms are a bit on the small side, but they are lavishly decorated with the finest appointments. Decor is reminiscent of the 19th century, and amenities feature extras such as bottled water and heated towel racks in the bathrooms. The restaurant is perhaps more famous than the property's sleeping accommodations, and offers extravagant dining at a correspondingly high price with prix-fixe options. Continental breakfast is complimentary; you can also splurge and enjoy a hot morning meal.

Incredible. If you can imagine paying well over $100 for each person at your table and considering it well worth it, then try the Inn at Little Washington. Service is perfect--timely and inobtrusive. Every morsel (and they give you many little extras) has richly varied flavor and is presented beautifully. The setting is lush, deep-hued and cozy. The wine list is amazing--not much to have under $80, but they don't mark it up very much at that level so it's more than fair. It's about 2 hours outside DC, but even if you can't stay the night, the daytrip is worth it.
