A visit to the Botanic Gardens is like stepping into another world. In a majestic art deco structure next door to the Capitol thousands of plant species are cultivated in vast greenhouse rooms with different climates and themes, including the Jungle House, the World Desert House and the Garden Primeval. Orchid lovers will marvel at the Orchid House, where displays are rotated from a permanent collection of more than 12,000 orchids. The Botanic Gardens reopened in 2001 after a four-year renovation, during which the structure was completely gutted and all
glass was replaced.
