Citysearch Editorial Review. This memorial is a place to commemorate and get information about people who have served at sea and in the Navy. It consists of the Naval Heritage Center and a commemorative public plaza, which includes a round amphitheater surrounded by fountains, pools and sculptures depicting great achievements at sea. Near the edge of the plaza stands the Lone Sailor statue by sculptor Stanley Bleifeld--symbolic of anyone who ever has or will serve in the Navy—which is overlooking the Granite Sea, a replica of all the planet's oceans. In the Heritage Center, find the Navy Memorial Media Resource Center, a reference center for visitors and researchers that also includes a collection or oral and written accounts of service.
