Citysearch Editorial Review.
This Mexican restaurant staple of both Tenleytown families and American University students has just the right look: Tall, slender sombreros dangle from the ceiling and serve as festive chandeliers, and authentic pottery plates and vases decorate the cheery yellow walls. Although the restaurant has expanded into a local chain, it retains its family-run feel. Even the flour tortillas are homemade; diners can watch them spiral down a heating ramp reminiscent of a giant mall gumball machine. The chips and chunky salsa served upon arrival are a nice compliment to both the margaritas and sangria, and round out the Tex-Mex menu of steaks, fajitas, chimichangas, enchiladas and burritos. Request a table in the upstairs fiesta room with its own bar for a large party, or a space on the front patio to watch the heavy foot traffic.
