Citysearch Editorial Review. Nestled on a quiet, tree-lined Dupont street among embassies, boutique hotels and row-houses-turned-offices, the Iron Gate restaurant is a local favorite for business lunches and romantic dinners. The genuine antique feel--it's a former horse stable and one of the oldest outdoor restaurants in D.C.--keeps customers coming back. In the winter, cozy up by the original, 1920s all-brick fireplace in the indoor dining room and indulge in hearty Mediterranean fare such as braised lamb shank with orzo and feta cheese--the most popular dish on the menu. By far the biggest draw, however, is the quiet, secluded garden; in warmer months, patrons dine on salads with seasonal vegetables on the outdoor patio that includes fountains, brick floors and a vine-covered trellis.
