There's more fun inside.... The Tabard Inn is one of my favorite spots for a drink with friends. It's perfect all year round. The inside with its Persian rugs, leather sofas and chairs and fireplaces feels like a well-appointed, well-loved living room. Couches arranged to face one another make great conversation spots to catch up. I wouldn't try bringing a group of more than 6-8, since it is an older rowhouse and space is tight, but it's great for small groups. The cheese plate and a few glasses of wine are just right.

The outside patio's parachute shade is one of my favorite quaint DC restaurant details, bar none. I would go there purely for the pleasure of sitting in their garden patio for a few hours. That and, of course, the doughnuts.

Ah-mae-ziiinnng. Tucked away in this historic Inn near Dupont Circle this quaint and cozy hotel restaurant has some of the most decadent brunch items in the city. Having been several times, I've never been disappointed. The menu changes some of the items seasonally, but a mainstay is the French Toast. Forget bad memories of soggy bread drowned in watery syrup - the French Toast at Tabard Inn is the best I've ever had. If you're more in the mood for a traditional omelet, you won't be disappointed either since those are fantastic as well. And of course, make sure you order a round of donuts for your table. They will arrive warm and soft, right out of the oven, and you'll consider breaking all your diet rules for second helpings - they're that good. There is often a wait on the weekends, so book your reservation ahead of time.

Best Brunch on the Planet. Tabard Inn's dinner may be expensive, but the brunch is superb value. Good luck trying to figure out what to order, because everything ALWAYS sounds good. Don't worry you won't feel cheated, as everything is tasty. The donuts are a must try and the hanger steak is about as good as they come.

Aside from brunch, drinks by the fireplace are a good time in the winter. They have a very respectable beer selection.
