A quirky little DC store with lots of personality. Sometimes DC gets a little too preppy for my tastes. With all the pearls and Anthropology outfits, it seems difficult to find a place with real personality.

Chocolate Moose, an off-the-wall little store that sells a hodgepodge of random stuff from candy to cards, is a gaudy neon light in a sometimes boring city.

It's selection of items can be a bit all over the map, so it's difficult to say what to go in for specifically. But they always have a funky collection of jewelry, some excellent chocolates, quirky cards, and some unique apparel. It's 100% worth a walk in if you happen to be in the neighborhood.

Citysearch Editorial Review. Opened by sisters Barbara and Marcia Levi in 1978, this offbeat gift shop is the place to go for cards, small gifts and chocolate in downtown D.C. Need a kooky card for a co-worker’s birthday? Have a hankering for chocolate-covered gummy bears? Can't live without a pair of wind-up chattering teeth? The Chocolate Moose has all that and more. The extensive chocolate counter offers handmade goodies from a Baltimore candy store, a variety of bulk candies and the shop's very own Chocolate Moose brand caramels and chocolate bars. The jewelry counter has pieces that range from funky to earthy, and there is a small collection of apparel, socks and ties.
