The White House--designed by architect James Hoban-- has been home to the United States President for more than 200 years on the plot chosen by then-president George Washington and city planner Pierre L'Enfant. It has survived two fires (one caused by the British in 1814 and another in the West Wing during Hoover's term) and is redecorated with each new administration. In addition to the West Wing and other executive offices, it also includes a tennis court, jogging track, swimming pool, movie theater and bowling lane.
