great beers and awesome french fusion. Bring your appetite and your patience, but only for a brief wait at the beginning before you're seated. Once you've got a table, the servers are fast as lightening. But pace yourself, because Bistrot du Coin has an amazing menu with a complete selection of French-inspired foods from mussels, to fish, to steak and frites!, to pastas, salads, and more more more. No matter what you eat, how full you get, and how sluggish you feel after eating at Bistrot du Coin, you must order dessert. They have perfectly crackable Creme Brulee that cannot be missed. For the gourmet style food served at this place, it is priced very moderately. Nice beer selection, too!
Citysearch Editorial Review. This lively North Dupont eatery is a true neighborhood bistro; photos of staff and patrons line the walls next to rows of hungry locals imbibing French cocktails--passion fruit nectar appears in several of the drinks--and chowing down on French classics such as tartines, pates, foie gras, moules and just-crisp French fries under kitschy disco balls and year-round tinsel and Christmas lights.
Am I Spoiled?. Though this place was recommeded in Frommer's and Fodor's, my experience here was just so-so. Even though I enjoyed the food, it did not provide the 'splash' that I would expect from this oft reviewed restaurant. The place was bustling, and the diners seemed to enjoy themselves. However, the waitstaff all had dour expressions on their faces and gave me the impression that they did not want to be there. The mussels were good, and the duck confit was better. My girlfriend had a better time than me, so maybe my expectations were just higher. Main drawback, especially for me coming from California, was that the restaurant allowed smoking at the tables. Lastly, the poached pear ice cream dessert was great.
french food without pretentiousness. The ambience is cosy and the food is spectacular. Not to mention they have great bar and dessert selections. For the calibre of the food, it's surprising that you don't have to dress fancy. The un-snootiness and comfortable atmosphere of this French restaurant makes it a great place to bring dates or just hang out with your friends over dinner.
