I live in the area and have been into this store several times. Firstly, it's quite a luxury to be able to just walk down the road to a hardware store, so I appreciate it purely for that reason. Secondly, the quality of service is great. I usually don't have a clue of the proper name of whatever I'm looking for but the staff have always managed to find it for me as well as offer helpful advice on how to use it--without being patronizing! There is also a great little homewares store attached. It's a good place to buy gifts for friends and the prices are quite reasonable. I went in there yesterday to buy a gift for a friend and I wanted it put in a cardboard box. They didn't have one the right size so the guy behind the counter actually MADE me a box out of some pieces of cardboard. For that I think they deserve 5 stars!

This is the type of hardware store that has something for everyone! I've consistently found what-ever I was looking for here--no matter how random. Canning jars, housewarming gifts, water filters, unusual bathroom accessories! It's one of the few places that my tool-loving partner and I can both have fun shopping. The hardware-focused half of the store is jammed from floor to ceiling and always has lots of knowledgeable staff ready to answer questions or help you find something. The housewares part of the store has less of a packed-in feeling, but is filled with unusual and items. The prices are reasonable for DC standards. Not as cheap as Home Depot, but definitely more fun to shop at.

True Value is a perfectly capable hardware store located on 17th Street near Dupont. Stocks all the typical hardware stuff, and has a quick and competent key maker, although the staff sometimes takes their time in helping customers. Perfectly good place, but not as friendly as Logan Hardware a few blocks east on P Street.
