Just too cool for me. Tasty and perfectly pleasant staff. Just something about the scene, about the mélange of retro and hype and marble, just didn;t do if for me. But I am a shady, crumbling dive bar kinda guy

Great brewery downtown with amazing garlic fries!. Before you judge me for saying I have never been to Gordon Biersch before, understand that although I have been in D.C. for over 3 years now, I am still trying out restaurants in the area and many of times chain restaurants are the last thing I explore. For a work function recently we dined at Gordon Biersch in downtown DC. Immediately as I walked in I was blown away by the decor. Having taken over an old bank the high ceilings, large marble columns, and brass/iron old doors decorate this DC brewery. It takes a typical brewery up a notch with the classy decor. Don't be shocked to see their menu offers typcial bar food, but at a great price during happy hour its sure to fill your stomach. My favorite thing on the menu? The garlic fries ....they are to die for! Who doesn't love garlic! Stop on by if you are looking for a cheap happy hour food and a beer.

Solid Brew Pub Downtown. There's no doubt that Gordon Biersch is one handsome brew pub. With all the marble, the pillars, the flags hanging from the ceiling, and the mahogany tabletops, this brew pub looks seriously classy.

But just because it portrays itself that way doesn't mean it is. My problem with this place is the menu. The food isn't anything special---standard American fare---and it's really not that great. Sure, the garlic fries are pretty good, but that's not exactly a complicated dish.

I've had some seriously fantastic meals in the city, so maybe my standards have gotten too high. But there is something about Gordon Biersch that feels so suburban mall to me. I don't know about you, but that's the last thing I want when I'm dining out in Chinatown.

Visual flair and fusion fare distinguish this upscale beer hall from smaller microbreweries.. In Short
Airy, industrial decor lends a lighter, more urban feel to Gordon Biersch than most beer halls. The bar may get crowded after 5pm, when a happy-hour crowd hoists a few pints of seasonal Bavarian-influenced beers. A menu of fusion and New American dishes include beer-friendly offerings like shrimp and chicken pot stickers, Moroccan-spiced lamb chops and the signature garlic french fries.
