Tips for Newseum

Great for News, History, and American Culture Buffs. Despite the $20 ticket fee, Newseum is totally worth it - you don't exactly have to love watching the news to love this place. The museum itself does a great job of showcasing American history in pop culture in a different light than the American History Museum, for example, by connecting events to the ways they were recorded or represented in the media. The museum is especially great if you love photography or film - there's a great exhibit on Photos of the Year and an interactive area where you can be in a "newscast." Adults will especially enjoy the Newseum on a nostalgic level; I'm an 80s baby but seeing pieces of one the Twin Towers and standing inside a section of the Berlin Wall brought back memories of seeing these events unfold on tv. Newseum is definitely an experience that both tourists and locals should try.

Great private museum for all ages. ove this museum - but have a cautionary note for parents: Please think twice before taking young children to certain exhibits. The 9/11 images and videos, etc., can be very disturbing for adults - and even more so for children.  Send them, instead, to the television studio area where they can become a reporter for a few minutes. That is much more kid-friendly. Overall, though, an excellent museum that shows the evolution of mass media in an intelligent, visually appealing way. The 9/11 section is very moving - as is the section that memorializes journalists who have died to capture wartime stories. Would highly recommend this museum to visitors.

Totally worth it!. Last time we were in DC we never made it to Newseum, so it was one of the must-do's on our list this time around. And although admission is around $20 per person (not counting military and student discounts) it was totally worth it! The Newseum talks about how news and media has chronicled our history, in America and around the world. The exhibits change pretty frequently i'm told (as media and news also change pretty rapidly) but some examples were a photo exibit of the presidential election, an exhibit on the falling of the berlin wall, of course a really emotional one on 911, but also fun ones on woodstock, presidential dogs, SNL news spiffs, and a workshop on how to become a tv newsanchor! We spent 3 1/2 hours there, and didn't see everything we wanted to. Not a great place for really small kids--i'd say 10 and older min. Maybe 15 and older would enjoy. located on Pennsylvania ave, close to the chinatown metro stop, we loved it!!!
