High tables and a busy open kitchen welcome diners into the spacious, brightly lit black-and-white interior. Just minutes after cashiers take customer orders, fresh-made tacos, burritos and enchiladas (stuffed with steak, chicken or seafood) arrive on the nearby counter. The menu also offers several plates of greens, from typical taco salad to fancier bowls with shrimp or mahi mahi. A stainless-steel bar offers several salsas, plus jalapenos, limes and cilantro for seasoning.

Having first experienced Baja Fresh whilst living in Southern California I was immediately impressed by their quality and variety of the menu. The years haven't been kind to this franchise and both the menu and quality have diminished considerably. I would strongly advise anyone planning on dining at the Baja Fresh at 3231Duke St. in Alexandria Commons to inspect the Salsa Bar prior to placing their order. On 2 separate occasions I have noticed the Salsa Bar has been absolutely infested with Gnats, Fruit Flies, and House Flies. It's absolutely disgusting and the employees seem casually nonchalant about the situation. On both occasions I informed the restaurant staff of the infestation and was met with the response, okay, followed by a blank stare. Another occasion the cashier at the front suggested I should simply avoid the top and take salsa and pico de gallo from the middle of the bowl.
