One of the best Indian Cuisine restaurants in DC is up in Cleveland Park. Indique is fine dining without fine dining prices. They have sidewalk seating, two levels inside, and a small balcony on the second floor with intimate seating. Real flowers are everywhere. The tables are covered with nice white cloths, with cream colored cloth napkins as an accent. A blue candle serves as a romantic centerpiece. My favorite is to come between 5:30 and 7PM for the Pre-Theatre prix-fixe menu. For $20 you get to pick an appetizer, entree, and dessert. These are not lesser portions than the regular menu either. This is possibly one of the best dinner deals in town. I love the Vegetable Samosa Chaat to start. Be careful though, this one has a slow build on the heat. Do make sure you have a glass of Mango Lassi at the ready to cut the wonderful burn. Next I like to follow with the Saffron Malai Chicken which is heavenly. It's chicken breast pieces marinated in yogurt, saffron, garlic, ginger, and cream cheese. The flavoring is very subtle and just wonderful. With this comes a shaped pile of excellent Basmati Rice and a bowl of sauce. For dessert you must try the Creme Caramel a la Indique, sort of a Flan with an Indian touch. Perfection, Im telling you. The little hint of coconut just sits perfectly. The staff will immediately make you feel right at home and never let you feel like you've been forgotten about. The presentation is excellent, and matches the level of the flavor here. I can do nothing but go with 5 stars for Indique. You just cannot go wrong here. I went with a large group for my birthday recently.. stellar service, lovely lighting and general vibe...and the food was FABULOUS. something for everyone, subtly spicy -- and NOT at all overpriced. I loved it.
