If you want to go to BlackSalt, you pretty much have to make detailed plans in terms of transportation and timing, especially if you have reservations. I live in DC and I had plenty of time to plan but I was still unfortunately stuck with taking a $13 cab ride to BlackSalt. The D6 bus does go to Palisades right on MacArthur Blvd., but on weekends the bus can run kind of slow. You can also offset the cab fare by taking the Circulator to Wisconsin and M and then taking a cab the rest of the way. Otherwise, go here with people who have cars. I think the food is worth it. They serve very delicious seafood dishes, like crispy fried calamari served with a spicy mayo. Their provencal fish stew is excellent and full of seafood, but a bit on the salty side. And their chocolate cake - rich and amazing. Try not to let the long commute ruin your experience here. It didn't for me.
not worth the cabfare.
Was a tourist in DC for the weekend. Have spent a lot of time in DC recently. Told this was "the place" for seafood. Cabfare from downtown was $12 each way and couldn't get a return cab for 40 minutes despite the restaurant calling.
Fish was good, portions were tiny. Waitress acted as if she were ready for the night to be over. Curt and disinterested. Tuna ordered extra rare was overcooked.
Not worth the cabfare, and not worth waiting 40 minutes to return to hotel. Restaurant owner needs to work out better system with cab companies--this place is in farthest NW DC, and you won't find a cab on the street.
