Reliably good Ethiopian. I had friends from abroad visit and wanted to treat them to DC's best ethiopian. I had raved about this place throughout their visit and was relieved when our Ethiopian cab driver started telling us about Etete, which means "mother" in Amharic, because, as our driver told us, "it's just like getting a home-cooked meal."

The fluffy injera here lacks the overly sour taste often found elsewhere. Instead, it has a subtle flavor that absorbs the sauces from your meal.

The vegetarian sampler provides a good assortment of Etete's best offerings. The staff are great about telling you what each item is and how they make it. Also, make sure to let them know what your spice preference is because some of the dishes can get fire-y.

The Ethiopian spiced tea was a bit disappointing: it mostly seemed to be cinnamon and water, accompanied by a bag of Lipton.

For the price and quality, this is the best 'home-cooked meal' around.

Great Ethiopian Food!. I have to admit sometimes I get stuck in eating at the same old restaurants in D.C. When venturing out to the U Street area one weekend with my friends we decided to try Etete, after hearing many great reviews.

The reviews were right! One of the hardest things was deciding what to actually order, everything looked amazing. Although my experience on eating Ethiopian food is very limited, I was very pleased with our meals at Etete. Not only was it filling and delicious it was actually budget friendly as well. A great way to start out your evening out on U Street.

A word to the wise: Make reservations or get there early, as it can fill up pretty quickly. Also, have everyone at your table order something different so you can share!
