UNWELCOMING!.
So, I was meeting girlfriends in D.C. for a Spring Break get-together. We added the D.C. Groupon to our watch list in anticipation of the upcoming trip. I purchased the Duffy's Irish Bar after doing my research and reading reviews of the place. When we arrived at the bar, the place was practically empty and yet the barkeep just stared us and kept talking on her phone. When we finally asked if we should seat ourselves she said, "Whatever." It took another 5 minutes for her to grudgingly walk over to us with dirty menus and she simply said, "We're out of ... (listed several menu items) and walked away." We felt very unwelcomed, the experience was not what we were promised, but we were willing to give it a try. She never returned to take our order, though, and we finally got up to leave. She looked at us, but made no effort to stop us. Needless to say this was NOT the fun time we had planned. :-(
Granted we probably did not "fit" the scene because we were all dressed in Sunday business attire (we had a West Wing tour scheduled for after the drinks and brunch), but I don't think that should've mattered.
Citysearch Editorial Review. Cheap beer and a great location make this U Street bar a favorite for locals and concert-goers--especially when it comes to the ultra-cheap happy hour deals. There’s plenty of seating at high bar tables near the front windows and short four-tops that can easily be rearranged to accommodate large groups. Like any good Irish pub, patrons come for bar food in addition to beer; snack on piles of scrumptious, spicy wings or tater tots--with or without cheese--or try one of the daily entree specials on Irish classics such as corned beef and cabbage or shepherd’s pie. Drink specials are always offered during football and basketball games, and get on the e-mail list for the inside scoop on other deals.
This place was great! I got Lucky!. I don't remember and thats ok! Actually, I do remember a leprechan...he was a silly little fella and he danced....he danced! The waitstaff is fun, the barkeep, is tallented, the band rocked it, the beer got drank, the fun kept on, and after it all was said and done.....
