We had our crawlspace done about 3 years ago and we are glad we did! At the time we had a minor crack in our foundation, which was being made worse by water filling up in the cinder block. Mid-Atlantic put in two sump pumps, an internal french drain system, and the vapor barrier. Since that time we have had several major weather events- blizzards, hurricane, earthquake, and the derecho last summer. If we had not had our crawl space done, we most certainly would be repairing our foundation. There has been tons of run-off water (our yard slopes toward the house) with the snow and the rains, which would have been hitting our foundation. The insurance appraiser said that if we didn't have our foundation taken care of so early (and correctly), the earthquake would have ruined our foundation. Instead, it only mildly exacerbated the existing crack! We have had no moisture issues since having the crawlspace done by Mid-Atlantic. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is that we had a bunch of trash left in the yard that we had to clean up. Not a reason not to go with them. 4 out of 5 stars
When we decided to get our basement waterproofed, Mid Atlantic was recommended as the gold standard, and we can see why. Their representative explained what was happening during severe rain storms, and their proposed solution of installing drains along the inside of two walls and a single sump pump with their proprietary technology made a lot of sense. In just a few days, they completed the work, and a test of the sump pump worked flawlessly. Our only regret is that we didn't contact Mid Atlantic earlier.
About 24 hours after we closed on our
first house, a torrential thunderstorm roared through Fairfax County. Our inspector had warned us that our below-grade basement windows might lead to a bit of "leaking" every few years or during a "perfect storm." Well, that was an understatement. We spent our first night of homeownership procuring a mop and bucket and going to work.
Over the next few months, we looked into an exterior french drain but our yard didn't have enough slope. We also looked into replacing the window wells alone but that wasn't going to solve everything.
Mid-Atlantic gave us a reality check: our 1955 house wasn't built to be waterproof forever. In the end, they installed a full interior perimeter drainage system with two sump pumps, window well drains, and a stairway drain. They worked with us on price, which came out lower than a competitor who offered only window wells and a dehumidifier, and helped us procure very reasonable fixed-rate financing. They completed the job early and didn't even seem to disturb our dog while they were there.
A few weeks later, we were actually hit by a so-called perfect storm: Hurricane Sandy. Our back lawn looked like a pond. Water spilled over the lip of our basement stairs. Power flickered on and off. Not a drop of water entered the house itself.
I highly recommend Mid Atlantic for your waterproofing needs.
Mid-Atlantic deserves Four Stars out of
Four
Mid-Atlantic installed and waterproofed our basement last summer. Since then our basement has not had a single drop of water find its way into our home. After 5 years of trying to resolve the problem on my own, Mid-Atlantic managed to do it in a day.
The crew was very professional and cleaned up every bit of mess made during the installation of the sump pump. I would highly recommend them and would use them again but thankfully will never have to do so..... in my current home.
