A creative bar in a low-key area of town.
I was excited to try out Science Club for the first time a few weeks ago. I had heard many people rave about its creative decor and interesting crowds. Upon entering Science Club I was caught off guard by the techno music blasting in the back room. The music didn't quite seem to go with the rest of the atmosphere but I wanted to give the bar a fair shot. The beakers holding lemons and limes on the bar added to its creative name, adding to the vibe of the place. I was encouraged to try the french fries when scanning the list of food on the menu. Although I was a little disappointed in the lack of appetizer items, I was glad when my plate of fries came out. Not only did I devour the entire plate in less than ten minutes but I cannot wait to go back for more. My overall feeling of Science Club was a chill crowd, decent for a night out with friends, however, the bar lacked anything special other than the decor.
A++ in french fries, but C-- in music
Citysearch Editorial Review. Despite rumors that this bar used to be home to the geniuses of National Geographic, Farragut West's Science Club received its name when owner Steve Maguire saw the space and thought it was reminiscent of an old experimental lab. Opening in 2006, he took the theme and ran with it, creating a cozy, multi-level bar with nods to the scientific--a lab coat here, a blackboard there. But ban flashbacks of the days of Bunsen burners; Science Club isn’t an exclusive meeting place for eggheads. Instead, after-work professionals and neighborhood locals gather to converse over a glass of wine, take shots after a brutal day, or shake their money-makers on the dance floor.
