Cityserach Editorial Review.
Behind the modest Aveda storefront at Gallery Place hides an industrial-sized salon, spa and beauty school where grooming junkies can get services for up to 60 percent off comparable salon prices. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the second-level space with natural light and provide a front seat view of bustling 7th Street. Here, beauty school students work toward the required 1,300 hours of hands-on practice--including cut, color, nail, waxing and facial treatments-- required for graduation after completing four months of classroom training. Prices may be slashed, but the spa experience remains intact: sample-size cups of its signature Comforting Tea are always at the ready, candles create ambiance and soothing scents, and an earthy green-and-brown motif offsets high, warehouse-like ceilings, exposed piping and cool stainless steel.
