Quaint but dungy.
Some girlfriends and I went here last night for a New World White wine tasting. It's in SE which is super sketch and we parked close by as we were scared to walk too far in the area. There's a small patio out front and bars on the windows! Inside it's a small, quaint place with dark, dungy decor. We were unsure as to where to sit as most seats were already taken. We posted up at the bar and ordered a happy hour glass of wine for $5 while we waited. It was also a lot lighter up front by the bar with the sunlight shining through the front glass. There were these weird, closet like rooms that were available but that also seemed pretty sketchy as there were huge, velvet drapes that could be used for privacy. We weren't sure exactly what had gone on in these rooms previously, so we decided to stay in our seats at the bar. The wine tasting was very informative as I took many wine tasting notes. There was no food offered but I'm not sure if that's just because we were there for the tasting or if they only serve alcohol.
On a side note, maybe it should be called Stray Dog. There was a dog roaming around the whole time. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge dog lover as I have a dog myself, but we found it really weird that a dog was there going from group to group, looking for food maybe?! He/she was very well-behaved but it was a turn off for me when he started to walk under the bar and in between my feet while I'm trying to enjoy a wine tasting.
The feel of the place is very different. I must say, I haven't been anywhere like it. Would I go again? Probably not, 1) because of the weird location. It's not a part of DC that I frequent, or actually have ever been. 2) I like to go places that are full of life and this is def a more somber feeling place.
