Toyland offers the feel of a neighborhood bar with a touch of 1960s style found in the turquoise counter, yellow foam bar stools and silver tabletops. One thing you won’t find, however, are toys (the neon rocket streaking across the bar wall notwithstanding); the name is a throwback to the toy section of a general store that existed in the area prior to the 60s riots. There is a TV, but patrons are more apt to engage in conversation with friends over something from the bottled beer selection. The bar sits further west on H Street than most of the neighborhood watering holes, but don't let the remote location be a turnoff; public transportation makes it easy to access.
