Build biceps, have fun, watch ducks – Downriver Potomac isn’t known for crystal clarity or cleanliness. Wildlife is limited to oaks and ducks. If getting out of the city is hard, Jack’s is your spot for river-based water sports. For $12 an hour, ride solo or tandem in kayaks and canoes up and down the river. Brightly festooned, the kayaks are a bit wobbly, so break out the guns to keep yourself upright. It’s also best not to take a dip. In the allotted pre-paid time, we were able to get around Roosevelt Island, a solid trek, but definitely doable. And hey, you actually accomplished something on Sunday instead of watching Top Chef repeats.

Fun on the Potomac – Somehow I suck at using a paddle, but my experience with Jack's was a lot of fun. If you're tired of the same old dinner-and-a-movie date or don't want to blow $50 on drinks at some skeezy bar with friends, just rent a boat at Jack's and enjoy the nature on and around the Potomac. It's pretty inexpensive ($12 to rent per person), they have plenty of boats and kayaks, and they're good about safety (you have to wear a lifevest). I've done a twilight tour with Jack's (runs $25.00); it lasts for 90 minutes (or more depending on how big a group you're in and how slow everyone is). If you're in the back, you can't always hear what your guide is saying, but they're knowledgeable nonetheless. You get great views of Georgetown/Foggy Bottom/Rosslyn from the river, and get to watch lots of planes flying overhead. And on top of that all, you'll get a good arm workout and a tan if you're going during the day.

Citysearch Editorial Review – This boat house on the edge of Georgetown is a rural escape for kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding and barbecues. Ideal for individuals and big groups alike, try a kayak (one or two person) or canoe (two person or three person) and get ready to paddle around the Potomac; go around Roosevelt island and check out the Kennedy Center, Watergate building and Georgetown waterfront from the best seat in the house. No experience is necessary for this water sport, though life vests are mandatory and guides are available for accompaniment. Afterwards, hang out on the colorfully decorated dock; the picnic benches and grills are perfect for beer and barbecue after a tiring paddle--bring your own food and leave it in the car (Jack's has its own lot) while you're out on the water.

Great Kayaking spot for beginners – When looking for a new adventure during my birthday weekend, I finally got up the nerve to try out kayaking. I had always been nervous of this activity because I had never experienced being in a kayak. Not wanting to spend alot of money on a day of kayaking I discovered Jack's Boats just below the Key Bridge. Upon walking to the dock the laid-back almost hippie like vibe of the company put me at ease. After paying $10 an hour for kayaking and throwing on a life-jacket we began our hour long adventure. I never realized how calm and exciting the Potomac can be from sea-level. Passing by the Georgetown harbor and viewing the Kennedy Cener from the water was one of he most peaceful activities D.C. has to offer.

A beginner at at Kayaking? No worries, I was too when I first started. Have no fear, Jack's Boats can be your answer to your new summer adventure.
