Citysearch Editorial Review – Carmine’s has been a New York City staple for decades, and now the team that pioneered the rise of homestyle Italian (call it ‘the macaroni revolution’) has brought an outpost to Washington, D.C. Everything’s oversized here: the billboard menus on the walls, the nine dining rooms, the personality, and the portions. Carmine’s serves heaping, family-style plates of pasta, fish, salads and meats on tables framed by black-and-white photographs that could be your grandmother’s. The cavernous main dining room is cozy, if a bit boisterous, and as plates serve 4 to 6 people, it’s a great place for groups, provided you’re all eating the same thing. With layer upon layer of eggplant parmigana, homemade meatballs and a dozen sauce choices, there's no room for small appetites.
