Citysearch Editorial Review. Though lacking '50s-era Formica tabletops and beehive-sporting waitresses, The Diner still succeeds in being a standby neighborhood joint, serving up its Adams Morgan take on comfort food at all hours--it's open 24 hours day, seven days a week. While everything might taste better at 4:30am, the proof is in the heavy brunch crowd, pouring in to enjoy thick, creamy shakes paired with Sunday morning specialties such as eggs Benedict. The perfectly prepared French toast takes the cake, however, replete with an eggy crust’s slight, pleasing crunch around a warm and fluffy interior. The Diner also boasts a full bar--beyond even hair of the dog purposes--however focus is on affordable, agreeable fare in a lively, though not overcrowded, restaurant.
Local hot spot. Aptly named, this is THE Diner. This is what i would label as the laid back foodie stop... simple food done quite simply and done right. From amazing greasy breakfasts - complete with grits & bacon - to super yummy turkey club sandwiches, to just coffee & dessert. You'll always find what you want at The Diner. Be warned that you'll face a lineup around weekend prime time brunch, but I've never had to wait for more than 30 minutes. There's also a great little independent book store just a few steps away and it has a range of books and comfy chairs to lounge in as you leaf through any book that strikes your fancy. Besides getting cheap, good eats, The Diner's staff is amazing, friendly, timely, and won't harass you every second. There's always good music playing and a half-done crossword laying around that you can take a stab at.
