Fantastic Wine Bar. Proof does a good job being exactly what a wine bar should be, providing a great selection of wine as well as having strong, flavorful food to complement the wine that is being offered. The ability to order a 4oz serving is a great option, since it encourages you to sample.

The food is pretty good. The portions are somewhat on the light side (our main course was quite on the small side) but a lot of the options are great pairings for wine. The charceuter plate (along with a few items of cheese) is probably the best way to go, giving you the widest selection and best bang for the buck.

Eat, Drink, and be Merry. My first experience at Proof might have been my best overall dining experience in D.C. and I'm not exaggerating. A true wine lover, I was impressed with Proof's wine menu but more importantly with the service. From the minute we sat down at our table, our waitress was incredibly friendly and helpful, recommending wines, offering tastings, and creating a very fun atmosphere and experience for everyone. She was so warm and informative that one guest at our table actually had her surprise him by randomly choosing his entree and the wine to go with it! The food is fantastic as well. I recommend the steak and the warm hazelnut chocolate cake for dessert. Have your server recommend wines the whole night - I promise you won't be disappointed.
