Fantastic Happy Hour – Happy hour prices are $6 for one dish, $15 for 3, and I think there's another deal for ordering 5 dishes, but I can't remember off the top of my head.
The ones I got were:
- Duck Fat Fries: THIS IS THE REASON WHY I CAME! Excuse my all caps but that's how excited I am about this! I've been looking for an establishment that served these and seeing Tara's review really made me want to come eat! What makes these fries so good you ask? Imagine eating a normal french fry - same initial taste and consistency as any normal fry - but now, you have a slight aftertaste of duck! The best way to describe that aftertaste from my experience is a hint of peking duck skin. OM NOM NOM NOM...I should've gotten another order xD (I'm greedy...hehehe)
- Risotto Bites: I wasn't a really big fan of these. They were a sweet version of hush puppies and overall kinda plain. I wish they had a dipping sauce to go with...
- House Braised Pork Belly "BLT": The pork belly (think of a thick juicy slab of bacon cut meat) has crispy edges and really tender meat. Now put that slab of yummy meat on a bed of lettuce and tomato (reminded me of a slight bruchetta taste) and all sandwiched in across two pieces of toasted white bread. It was DELICIOUS!
I think overall the Happy Houring was a success. The staff was extremely friendly. We were 1 of two parties that was there so we had some leg room.
I definitely want to come back for dinner. There are alot of dishes I want to try from their Entree Menu. I also want to give the Pre-theatre menu a shot; it's a 3 course meal for 35 dollars.
Intimate Dining with creative decor – When I started working in the city I began trying new restaurants that I had not visited before. During restaurant week when most people in the district were fighting crowds at other restaurants I decided to make a reservation for my friend and I at Cedar. I have to say I was thoroughly impressed by not only their creative American meal selections but the portions were just the right size for lunch.
The decor and size of the restaurant are definitely something to talk about. Although I loved the intimate, cozy feel of the restaurant it does make it hard to have any sort of private conversation during your meal. Because of the size of the space dinners are seated very closely together making it more of a communal meal than a private outing.
However, don't let the size of the space keep you away. The modern decor of grass and tree wall paper makes it feel like an upscale outdoor wilderness setting. Although you might be inspired to take a long hike after eating here, I did like the character and feel of the restaurant.
Although it is a very cozy atmosphere, I definitely recommend stopping by Cedar prior to a theater performance or even for dinner with a friend. I highly recommend the steak salad!
