Gourmet Twist on Traditional Southern Fare. Art & Soul, being just walking distance from my office, has become a regular go-to for happy hours with my bosses and co-workers. Funny enough, I haven't eaten an actual entree here, but judging on both the drinks and the bar food and after hearing lots of praise from friends and co-workers, I'm sure the dishes in the main dining are excellent. As a happy hour spot, A&S is sometimes crowded (especially if Congress is in session), but I've never had an issue finding a place to sit. A&S' cheese plate is light and fresh and perfect to share; their crispy duck wings are the right amount of tang and spice. I also love their fried green tomatoes, and they definitely will remind any Southerner of home. Their cocktails are unique and tasty (I'm a fan of the Blueberry Smash) and their shaved ice cocktails are both refreshing on a hot day and as tasty as a popsicle. Oh and be aware of their awesome Old Bay chips, offered free at tables and refilled by request: they're addictive, and may make you full before you even get your dishes.

Southern Fare with spunk!. I really enjoyed my dining experience at Art and Soul with 3 friends. The service was pleasant and our waitor was cordial. We did a Cote du Rhone Syrah which was a very decent bottle of wine for the table. I started with the mussles: very impressive! The rosemary was a lovely touch and they came with THE flakiest biscuit with a hint of garlic in the crust. I had the veal shank and it was a delight to the pallet. The maple glaze was just right and the balance of the sweet and savory of the dish was delightful. My friend has the salmon which she absolutely loved. I regret not tasting it in hindsight. Overall it was a delightful evening with lovely food. I am certain to return when I am in the DC area.
