A Great Addition to the Neighborhood.
I only wish a place like Pete’s had existed in Columbia Heights when I lived in the area a few years back. It has quickly become one of my favorite pizza joints in D.C. for its laid-back, by-the-slice atmosphere, surprisingly awesome beer selection, and stellar food. The “New Haven” white pizza with clams is a particular standout, although every pie boasts fresh ingredients and the deliciously chewy signature thin crust.
The menu also contains surprises like the crispy goat cheese salad: a bed of organic herbs dressed with caramelized shallot vinaigrette, dried currants and candied pecans, covering a hidden brick of goat cheese that’s been expertly flash-fried, leaving it with a golden brown crust and a warm, soft center. It’s a dish that would look perfectly at home in any fancy modern American restaurant in the city, and just one of a long list of reasons why Pete’s is worth visiting.
