Charming, in a nice way. Though not the most conceptual restaurant, Ulah tries to ooze trendy without being overly pretentious; a soundtrack that includes Lady Gaga and Rihanna does the trick. Entrees run at least $20, but thin-crust pizzas like a Mediterranean loaded like a Greek salad and burgers and sandwiches are large, filling and under $15. Try Ulah after happy our on Wednesdays when buckets of 5 Landsharks go for a refreshing $15. Our server was sweet, letting us lazily linger over our lagers for quite awhile before we ordered dinner.

Citysearch Editorial Review. This bar and lounge in the heart of the U Street Corridor is a safe bet for all-American cuisine. Ulah sports one of the biggest weekend brunch menus around with specialties such as chocolate chip and banana walnut pancakes or smoked gouda mac and cheese. It’s most famous for wood-fired oven pizzas, which are available at brunch, lunch, dinner and even late night. The two story space, with hardwood floors, clean lines and plenty of natural light, feels homey and familiar; patrons are just as comfortable grabbing wine with a date as they are returning for brunch--tired and hungover--the next morning.

A Cozy, Neighborhood Spot. I've been to Ulah Bistro on different occasions - a first date, late dinner with friends, etc. - and the restaurant has been great every time. They serve delicious meals with good portions and have a solid drink list (I'm particularly happy that they have alcoholic Arnold Palmer's). Ulah offers American cuisine like Roasted Chicken and Crab Cakes - typical dishes you can find at other restaurants, but they're particularly cooked well and very tasty. I've had their Jambalaya, which was top-notch, and comparable to other DC spots that concentrate on southern food. Nothing particularly pops out from my experiences as absolutely phenomenal, but I definitely like this place a lot. Think of Ulah as a good, local alternative to just going to a regular 'ol Cheesecake Factory or Red Lobster. You'll get the warm, cozy experience of a nice local spot with food that's just as good, if not better.
