Baseball, beer and a half-smoke; Nationals Stadium--home to the Washington Nationals in southeast Washington--combines America’s favorite pastime with local food favorites such as Ben’s Chili Bowl, Hard Times Cafe, Five Guys and Gifford’s Ice Cream, all with the Capitol dome in the background. It couldn’t get more American if they sold apple pie. The state-of-the-art, multi-million dollar stadium, which opened in 2008, appeals to adults and kids with plenty of mid-inning entertainment, such as the famed fourth inning Presidents Race, which pits runners costumed as presidents Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt against each other. It takes a lot to run a stadium for thousands of people, but this is also the first major league ballpark to be certified under the LEED green building rating system.
