Citysearch Editorial Review. Dupont has never been lacking in burger joints, but Rogue States adds a gourmet flare to the traditional fast food. All burgers are made-to-order and cooked over mesquite wood--the actual wood pile is visible in the dining room itself. There are seven different burger options, from the Ciao Down with garlic, tomatoes and basil cooked right into the patty to the Square One, a more classic option seasoned with sea salt and fresh black pepper, for which a turkey patty can also be subbed. The beef burgers come in one of two ways--pink or no pink--and all are served on thick, buttery brioche buns delivered each morning from Lyon Bakery. Fresh, piping-hot fries (regular potato or sweet) are available as sides, and local microbrews from Fredericksburg's Blue and Gray Brewing Co. complete the all-American meal.
Late night burgers.
Rogue States is a new burger place along Connecticut Ave that prides itself on being open till 5 am every night. I popped in for their lunch special the other day, which for $9 (pre-tax and cheese) is still a bit pricey. The special consists of your choice of a burger (either the Rogue State - house spice blend, chipotle, cilantro, Square One - sea salt, black papper, or the specialty burger - the other day it was a curry burger) plus fries and a drink.
The burgers and fries are pretty good, though given the choice, I'd still opt for Five Guys any day.
Also, don't be fooled by appearances. The front might look overly crowded but there is tons of extra seating in the rear of the restaurant.
