Beware of leaving your bags in "bag check". Beware of leaving your bags in "bag check". Our family reserved 3 rooms and had a big dinner at the Hyatt. We were rewarded with very bad service. We were in town for the Marine Corp Marathon; we needed to have our bags checked till we got back from the race after check-out. A complimentary service provided by the Hyatt. Well, here is the fine print. Make sure you inspect each bag and double check you have all your bags. One of our bags did not come home with us and we did not realize it till we unloaded the van 60 minutes later. A two month process of being passed from the Hyatt assistant manager, to the Hyatt Regency head of security (to review the video tapes), then finally to corporate Hyatt and their insurance claim desk. Essentially we received a nicely worded corporate letter stating that Hyatt has no responsibility for lost baggage per a Washington DC statute that we should have been aware of. So bottom line is the Hyatt employees either gave our bag to someone else or it was stolen. The Hyatt has pretty much said that we can pound sand. So it's my duty to warn the 30,000 Marine Corp Marathon runners and their families to think twice about staying here if they intend to check their bags while at the race.

Nice location. Let me start out by mentioning that this hotel is in a great location. It’s close to both the Capitol building and the Metro station. However, while the rooms were clean and the hotel was nice inside, it was not very well run. Each staff member seemed to be confused as to what their particular duties were, especially the concierge service area.

We booked this hotel online and ordered the Amour package for our second night, which includes champagne, strawberries and two complimentary breakfasts. We didn’t hear anything about this until we went and asked the concierge the second night at about 8pm. They didn’t have a clue what we were talking about and couldn’t find the order in their system. Then another person said that the Amour package was a Valentine’s Day special and they didn’t offer it anymore, even though it is listed on the hotel’s website as a regular package. After a bit of running around to the amenities person and back to the concierge, they finally delivered the champagne and strawberries later that night. It was just a bit frustrating knowing that we wouldn’t have received what we paid for had we not inquired about it.

The other thing I would like to mention is that the hotel bills itself as the “premier luxury hotel in downtown Washington DC.” This was hard to believe given the astounding amount of children that were present during our stay. I have no problem with children. I do, however, have a problem being outnumbered by children 2 to 1 at 11:30pm in the hotel’s bar area. It’s hard to enjoy a quiet drink with your significant other when you have toddlers and 6 year-olds running past you constantly. I don’t fault the children, I fault the parents. And that’s who you will be sharing this hotel with; parents who take their kids to the hotel bar at 11:30 in the evening.

Despite the overall tone of this review, I would say that this is still a good hotel if you don’t set your expectations too high. If you’re just looking for a place in a nice location where you can sleep well after a long day of walking through the city, then it will suit you just fine.

Upscale hotel's comfortable rooms and modern business facilities appeal to both business and leisure travelers.. In Short
Soon after the first Hyatt hotel opened in Los Angeles in 1957, Hyatt hotels and resorts became known for their dramatic atrium lobbies and their ability to express local flavor. Rooms feature beds with Sealy brand mattresses and down comforters, flat-screen TVs with cable access, wireless Internet, iPod-adaptable alarm clock/radios, Starbucks coffee and Portico bath products. Travelers enjoy the convenience of hotel and airline check-in kiosks, fitness facilities, multiple business centers and ample meeting spaces.
